I was having a discussion with a potential client the other day on how LemonStand would be perfect for their business when it comes time to overhaul their website.
Anyway, we got talking about discounting and coupons (and I showed them the detail of the rules they could implement - the grin on their face had to be seen to be believed) but then they asked about how they could mark an individual item as on sale/clearance and I went on to show them, the grin quickly disappeared.
So is there an easier way of discounting a product by a specific amount using the rules system then I showed them?
Could you create a set of "canned" rule that could be applied on the products price tab? Such as, never expire, apply to all groups, discount to fixed price, then simply enter the price and rule name.
From what I can see the rules system is great at applying discounts to lots of products, but becomes inefficient when applying specific prices to individual products. It could be the client needs to change their way of discounting to fit LemonCart, but I hate telling people to change the way they've always done things just to fit within the constrictions of a piece of software.
anyway, just thought I'd mention since I hadn't even thought it could be an issue until doing a walk through with a potential client.

Hi, lecoder!
The problem with having a discount management user interface on the Edit Product page is that there will be two places in the system, where you can manage product discounts. It could be confusing, because you can easily forget about "product-specific" rules, because they are hidden deep inside the product management interface, and a result of applying Product Price Rules could become unpredictable. On the other hand, with the current implementation, you can see all rules on the Catalog Price Rules page, and you always know how discounts are configured.
It is possible to create product-specific discounts on the Catalog Price Rules - you need to use the "Product" condition and select a specific product, or a set of products.
I believe if you explain it to the customer, the grin will return to his face ;-)
