Adding items to cart from iframe

I am trying to implement a custom building application from another site for a client. The other site provides an iframe to place into your site, which I have done on a page, and returns the custom data (color, text, shape, etc.) as a POST back to the site. Is there a way to add this to the cart? Do I need to create a product for it?
